Alexandra The Great 48 was a legendary burlesque performer who entered show business in the late 1950s. She started in New York with the alias Brandy Alexander, but later learned that another star had the same name. She then took the stage name Alexandra The Great 48, inspired by a movie with a similar title that was then playing in the cinema and the “48” reflecting her 48-25-42 figure.
Alexandra gained early skills and confidence, as well as a platform at the Town Hall Theatre, through association with Rose La Rose, who coached her in the intricacies of developing her own act. Familiar with club settings, she worked primarily on theater stages in locales such as Hawaii and Australia. One well-known highlight in her career occurred in Honolulu, where she stopped traffic in her glamorous costume. Regularly attracting crowds of up to 3,000, she also completed a lengthy contract in Honolulu.
After her stage-performance career ended in the early 1970s, Alexandra turned to cosmetic beauty and served as beautician with Universal Studios. She subsequently developed a standalone range of beauty products that helped people rejuvenate and look their youthful best.
